2018/19 Season to Feature Six Residencies, Including Three Productions at The Toby at Newfields;

IB’s First Full Artistic Season to Begin Next Weekend during 2018 IndyFringe Festival

 

INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, August 10, 2018) – Building on the momentum of last spring’s successful launch, Indianapolis Ballet is setting the stage for excellence ahead of its upcoming 2018/19 Season. Indy’s professional resident company’s first full-length artistic season will include six productions from August 2018 through April 2019 and feature the talents of 20 full-time artists.

Indianapolis Ballet is proud to continue its official Performance Residency Partnership with The Toby at Newfields, which will host three IB main-stage productions in September, February and April. Indianapolis Ballet will also return The Nutcracker to the historic Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in December and call another downtown venue, The District Theatre, home for six Beyond Ballet IndyFringe Festival performances beginning this weekend as well as the New Works showcase series in November.

Indianapolis Ballet’s full company membership has nearly doubled in size from its spring debut, with six new dancers joining all seven returning founding company members. IB’s ranks of full-time apprentices has also grown this season to seven dancers, and five additional students from the Indianapolis School of Ballet’s new Professional Level Program have begun their intensive training program that includes daily participation in classes and rehearsals alongside the professional dancers.

August 17-25, 2018 | Beyond Ballet | The District Theatre

Indianapolis Ballet begins its first full season in collaboration with longtime partner IndyFringe during the 14th annual IndyFringe Festival. This production in the newly-renovated The District Theatre fuses ballet with other disciplines of dance to create engaging choreography that will keep audiences wondering what might come next through this eclectic program.

September 28-30, 2018 | Balancing Acts: An Evening of George Balanchine | The Toby at Newfields

Recognized as one of the professional companies in the United States that champion the technique and works of George Balanchine, Indianapolis Ballet is honored to begin its run of residencies at The Toby at Newfields by celebrating “the father of American ballet.” Presented by arrangement with The George Balanchine Trust, IB will feature three iconic Balanchine ® Ballets at The Toby at Newfields: Serenade, The Four Temperaments and Raymonda Variations.

November 8-11, 2018 | New Works showcase series | The District Theatre

IB’s New Works series moves to The District Theatre, adding to the updated venue’s eclectic artistic programming. The four performances will feature fresh, genre-bending choreography in an intimate setting that will allow audience members to witness the passion, precision and athleticism of professional dance via a unique, up-close experience.

December 14-16, 2018 | The Nutcracker, presented by Methodist Sports Medicine | Old National Centre

Indiana’s grandest staging of the holiday tradition returns to the historic Murat Theatre with four weekend performances. Indianapolis Ballet and dancers from the Indianapolis School of Ballet will join the Indianapolis Ballet Orchestra in bringing this magical Christmas tale to life. Dance students interested in taking part should mark Sunday, August 12, on their calendars for open auditions at IB’s downtown studios.

February 15-17, 2019 | Love is in the Air | The Toby at Newfields

As it did with its historic debut last February, Indianapolis Ballet is sharing the love with ballet lovers – and lovers of romance in general – once again for Valentine’s weekend. The red-themed production of mixed-repertoire will include a pair of classic ballets in Paquita and Carmen.

April 18-20, 2019 | Swan Lake | The Toby at Newfields

Indianapolis Ballet will close the season in epic fashion with a full-length staging of the Tchaikovsky masterpiece. To accommodate the Easter weekend, the residency will begin with Thursday and Friday evening performances before closing with a Saturday matinee.
