08 Mar Celebrated New York City Ballet Dancers to Teach Master Classes at Indianapolis Ballet, Inc. this Spring
INDIANAPOLIS, March 7, 2016 – Indianapolis Ballet, Inc., home of the Indianapolis School of Ballet (ISB), is proud to announce its 2016 series, “Dancing with the Masters,” a series that exposes students, teachers, and dancers in Central Indiana to the most talented and creative artists in the field of dance. The “Dancing with the Masters” program was the first of its kind in the Indianapolis area and ISB is thrilled to bring it back for its eighth consecutive year. The 2016 series will feature distinguished dancers Sandra Jennings, Nilas Martins, and Melinda Roy, developing future dancers upon George Balanchine’s legacy at ISB.
A renowned reptiteur for The George Balanchine Trust and a former dancer with the New York City Ballet, Sandra Jennings has staged over 30 ballets for companies worldwide and has danced in both principal and soloist roles in ballets by George Balanchine. Ms. Jennings will teach at the Indianapolis School of Ballet on Sunday, March 13 from 12:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. Ms. Jennings has taught Master Classes at the Indianapolis School of Ballet both in 2010 and 2013.
Nilas Martins, an internationally celebrated dancer, teacher and choreographer, joins the Indianapolis School of Ballet for a Master Class on Sunday, April 10 from 12:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. Martins’ acclaimed twenty-four year dance career began at the Royal Danish Ballet in Denmark and continued on as a Principal Dancer for the New York City Ballet. Martins was accepted as one of ten fellows into the renowned DeVos Institute for Arts Management at The Kennedy Center under the direction of Michael Kaiser. Martins also became a repetiteur for The Balanchine Trust as well as a guest teacher and choreographer for companies, universities and festivals around the world. This will be Nilas Martins first Master Class with the Indianapolis School of Ballet
Former Principal Dancer with the New York City Ballet, Melinda Roy, will be at the Indianapolis School of Ballet on Sunday, April 17 from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. Aside from dancing, Ms. Roy has choreographed for many Broadway shows including the Broadway version of the movie Urban Cowboy, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award in April 2003. Ms. Roy has also been a guest teacher at the Indianapolis School of Ballet since 2014.
All classes will be held at the Indianapolis School of Ballet studios located on the second floor of the Cadillac Building, 502 N. Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana. The classes are open to dancers ages 13 and up with at least six years of formal training and ladies with two years of pointe experience.
