judith gregg peters

Judith Gregg Peters brings over 30 years of experience in the realm of ballet and dance to her position at the Indianapolis School of Ballet.  In addition to her professional performance career, she has designed costumes, mentored teachers, and developed ballet programs and curriculum for dance schools. Ms. Peter passion has always been teaching and many of her students have continued dancing at the professional level.


Ms. Peters began her training in Kansas under several Midwestern teachers including June Horowitz, Barbara Tholl, Jean Cooper, Eckhard Heidrich, and Larry Long. She later studied at Centre de Danse International in Cannes, France with Rosella Hightower, Elena Tchernichova, William Burmann.  Ms. Peters also attended Butler University.   She counts David Kloss, Maggie Black, Peggy Dorsey, Colette Kaufman and Jean Cooper among her most influential teachers and mentors.


In 1974 she was selected to apprentice with the Indianapolis Ballet Theatre under the artistic direction of George Verdak.  After moving to Philadelphia, she performed as a soloist with Philadelphia Civic Ballet, under the artistic direction of David Kloss, and with the Rita Jones Dance Company.  Her costumes, designed for Mr. Kloss for the full-length ballet version of Dicken's A Christmas Carol, have enjoyed 30 years in the repertoire in the Philadelphia area.  Her design work was also featured in Cinderella, When Fairy Tales Come True, and many other productions.


Ms. Peters began teaching ballet as a substitute at the Jordan Academy in Indianapolis.  She continued this path at the North Carolina State University enrichment program, throughout the Philadelphia area including Ballet Des Jeunes (also serving as ballet master) and Philadelphia Civic Ballet. In northern New Jersey and New York she taught for Clinton Hill Ballet Workshop, DanceWorks, Wendy Barker, and the New Jersey Opera Institute/New School for the Arts. After relocating to Southern California in 1998, she started a small school, Wildrose Studio, and taught at other Los Angeles ballet schools. Ms. Peters joined the ISB faculty in 2009.
