Patricia johnstone
Patricia Johnstone’s career spans over 30 years of instruction in ballet technique, creative movement, jazz and tap. She has taught students of all ages from pre-school through adult, choreographing works for student and professional dancers. During her 20 years with the Dance Refinery, she developed a curriculum for creative movement based on storytelling, songs, games, rhythm and musicality, designed to give very young children a positive classroom experience while using their naturally creative imaginations with the physicality of dance.
Ms. Johnstone received her ballet training with Maggie Black, Anneliese von Oettingen, George Verdak, I-Chi Cheng Zhou from the Central Ballet of China and Rebecca Rutt. She studied Horton Modern Dance Technique at the Contemporary Dance Theatre in Cincinnati and with Joy Kellman in New York City. She received her B.S. in Music (Ballet) and English from Indiana University School of Music, under the direction of Jean-Pierre Bonnefous. As a performer, Ms. Johnstone danced with Indianapolis Ballet Theatre and Gregory Hancock Dance Company. She also performed one season with Dans Ethnik, dancing traditional and modern dances from eastern and western Europe, the Mediterranean, and Israel.
