Intensive training, affordable and close to home

The Indianapolis School of Ballet’s Summer Intensive program aims to further dancers’ training and improve essential skills required to advance to their desired level of excellence. Students have the opportunity to work with other talented dancers selected from a national audition tour and under the guidance of ISB’s Artistic Staff, educators from the Ballet Department at Indiana University’s esteemed Jacobs School of Music, and other guest instructors.


The Indianapolis School of Ballet’s Summer Intensive curriculum provides exceptional instruction for the serious minded ballet student to reach their desired level of achievement. Both the five-week & three-week intensive programs include classes in Technique, Pointe, Variations, Adagio, Modern, Ballroom, Jazz, Pilates, and Weight Training for Men. All students will participate in weekly lectures on nutrition, physical therapy, foot care, and seminars on college and career preparedness.

Video Audition, Admission & Registration

Admission to the Summer Intensive is by audition only. Students must be 10 years of age by June 1, 2018.


DVD audition accepted with $30 fee; must be submitted by May 31, 2018. Click here to download the Video Audition form PDF, which includes all instructions and should accompany the video submission.


Housing available for students aged 13 to 23.


Online registration via our Studio Director online portal is required prior to audition and can be accessed here. After logging in or registering a new account:

  • click the “Enroll in a Class” link
  • click the “2017-2018 Auditions and Master Classes” link
  • select the preferred audition on the calendar


An audition fee of $30 can be paid online with pre-registration, otherwise the fee is due at at the time of audition.


Please bring TWO photos – a headshot (may be a school photo) and full-length dance photo in first arabesque. Ladies must bring pointe shoes.

ISB provides dancers with enriching experiences within and outside of the studios throughout the duration of the five weeks of classes. Conveniently located downtown, the ISB studios provide access to the city’s best cultural attractions, shopping, scenic bike and walking trails, museums, parks, and art galleries – many within walking distance of the studio and housing accomodations.


Students enjoy an atmosphere that fosters long-lasting friendships with people from across the nation. Pre-approved activities give students the opportunity to see great performances, and take trips to museums, historic landmarks, sporting events, concerts, and the zoo. All outings are chaperoned by ISB staff.

Students aged 13 and up, can stay in supervised housing on the beautiful downtown campus of IUPUI, located one-mile from the ISB studios. University Tower is a full service residence hall, a secure building staffed by experienced adult counselors to ensure a safe, friendly atmosphere for all students. Double occupancy rooms with fully attached bathrooms include air conditioning, cable TV hookup, and high speed Internet. Other amenities include free resident laundry, lounge and social spaces, resident computer lab, dining facilities, resident fitness center, and campus buses.


Audition FAQs:

Where and when are auditions held?

  • Audition registration will begin 30-60 minutes prior to audition, check your local schedule.
  • All dancers should arrive in time for registration and to warm up. Auditions are punctual.

What age group do I audition with if my birthday is before or during the ISB Summer Intensive?

  • Audition with your current age level. Students must be 10 years of age by June 1, 2018 to attend the intensive.

Do you accept video auditions?

  • It is always best to audition in person. If you do not live within driving distance of an audition site, you may submit a video by our May 31 deadline, with a $30 fee. We will honor those who audition in person first. Download the form here.

What is the audition dress code?

  • Ladies: Leotard, pink tights, ballet slippers, pointe shoes. Hair pulled neatly back in a high ballet bun.
  • Gentlemen: White t-shirt, tights, and ballet shoes.

When do we find out if we are accepted?

  • Within 14 days of the audition. We do not include notes.

When do we find out the placement level?

  • You will be informed of your placement level in your acceptance letter.
