Volunteer

Lend a hand to lift the arts.

Volunteering with Indianapolis Ballet is a meaningful way to support the arts and contribute to our mission of inspiring the Indianapolis community and beyond through the power of dance. Whether you're assisting with mainstage productions or helping at Indianapolis School of Ballet events, your time and talent directly support our performances, education programs, and outreach initiatives.

With Indiana home to more nonprofit arts organizations than any other state, we know you have many choices for where to give your time. At Indianapolis Ballet, we offer a welcoming, social environment where volunteers can meet fellow arts supporters, develop new skills, enjoy flexible scheduling, and take pride in being part of something truly special. You also have the opportunity to earn extra ticket discounts, swag items, and more with our new Volunteer Appreciation Program!

There are many ways to get involved, and we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and skill levels. Below, you’ll find descriptions of current opportunities for the 2025/26 season. We invite you to explore the roles that interest you and complete our volunteer application to join our dedicated team.

Ticket Scanner - Ticket scanners are responsible for assisting patrons by scanning their tickets for performances and answering any questions they may have regarding their seats, the performance, and more. Ticket scanners are often the first interactions patrons have with individuals associated with Indianapolis Ballet, so it is critical that we offer patrons the best customer service and a warm welcome. This volunteer role is recommended for experienced volunteers. You must have an iPhone or Android phone to scan tickets.

Usher - As an usher, you will be responsible for guiding patrons to their seats before the performance begins. Usher volunteers will be provided seating charts of venues in advance in order to understand seating arrangements. Seating charts will also be available on site to use accordingly. All guests should present their ticket to you before being ushered to their seat. Small flashlights will be provided in instances where patrons arrive to the performance a few minutes late. Again, we want to make all patrons feel comfortable and welcome.

ISB Volunteer - As a volunteer for Indianapolis School of Ballet students, you are responsible for ensuring students are ready to put their best foot forward onstage for performances. ISB volunteers assist children with their costumes, quick changes from one costume to another, guiding students to and from the stage during performances, and overall ensuring each child is well-behaved and focused for performances. As a volunteer working with children 18 years or younger, a background check will be required. The actual background check is conducted only for those volunteers who have been selected for placement.
