Robert Steven Mack began formal ballet training at age 13 at Lauridsen Ballet Centre in Torrance, CA. He also trained at summer intensives at the Royal Ballet in London, ABT New York, Ballet Arizona, and the Princess Grace Academy in Monte Carlo, Monaco. He furthered his ballet education at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music under Michael Vernon, Kyra Nichols, Carla Körbes, Christian Claessens, Sasha Janes, and Sarah Wroth. With IU Ballet Theatre, he performed Scarf Man in Jerome Robbins' The Concert, Angry Man in Anthony Tudor's Dark Elegies, Mark Morris' Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes and Sandpaper Ballet, Martha Graham's Diversion of Angels, August Bournonville's A Folk Tale: Pas de Six, and Christopher Wheeldon's Carousel: A Dance. While attending IU, Robert also danced with American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House, Indianapolis Ballet and Ballet Project OC in Tustin, CA, where he continues to appear as a guest artist.  

Since joining Indianapolis Ballet as an artist, Robert has been featured in George Balanchine‘s Serenade as Waltz Boy, The Four Temperaments as Phlegmatic, and Tarantella, as well as in Victoria Lyras’ A Midsummer Night's Dream as Oberon. 

In addition, Robert is an award-winning filmmaker focused on curating narrative and dance to celluloid and digital mediums. His most recent short film Dancing Man, a comedy-drama romance which he produced, directed and starred in premiered at the IU Cinema in Spring 2023 and has won several honors already. His past work has included award-winning dance films and documentaries, and he is a member of SAG/AFTRA. Additionally, Robert is also an arts writer who serves as research associate for American Purpose for which he also contributes arts and culture columns. 

Robert recently graduated Pi Alpha Alpha with a Master of Public Affairs in Media, the Arts and Public Policy and holds a BS in Ballet and a BA in History with Honors from Indiana University, Bloomington with highest distinction and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
