Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with Indianapolis Ballet is a meaningful way to support the arts and help advance our mission of inspiring the community through the power of dance. Whether you are assisting at mainstage performances or supporting Indianapolis School of Ballet events, volunteers play an essential role in bringing our performances, education programs, and outreach initiatives to life.

With Indiana home to more nonprofit arts organizations than any other state, we are grateful for the time and talent our volunteers choose to share with us. Indianapolis Ballet offers a welcoming, social environment where you can connect with fellow arts supporters, build new skills, enjoy flexible scheduling, and take pride in contributing to something special. Volunteers also have access to appreciation benefits, including ticket discounts, swag items, and more through our Volunteer Appreciation Program.

We offer a variety of roles for the 2026/27 season and welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Explore the opportunities and complete our volunteer application to join our team.

For those looking to deepen their involvement and support the long-term success of both the company and school through fundraising efforts, we encourage you to consider joining The Guild, our dedicated volunteer fundraising group.

  • Ticket scanners assist patrons by scanning tickets for performances and answering questions about seating and events. As often the first point of contact for guests, this role is essential in creating a warm and welcoming experience. Volunteers must provide excellent customer service and are required to use an iPhone or Android device for ticket scanning. This role is recommended for experienced volunteers.

  • Ushers guide patrons to their seats before performances begin. Volunteers receive seating charts in advance and have access to on-site references to help guests find their seats smoothly. Ushers also assist late arrivals using provided flashlights when needed, ensuring all patrons feel comfortable and welcomed throughout their visit.

  • ISB volunteers support student performances by helping dancers prepare backstage and ensuring smooth transitions during shows. Responsibilities include assisting with costumes, quick changes, and guiding students on and off stage. Because this role involves working with minors, a background check is required for selected volunteers.

Indianapolis Ballet Guild

The Indianapolis Ballet Guild is a fundraising group of dedicated volunteers who support the Indianapolis Ballet -- both the professional company and school - with style and enthusiasm. Lending diverse talents and business acumen, the Guild volunteers seek support from deep within the greater Indianapolis area.

  • The mission of the IB Guild is to provide a vital link between Indianapolis Ballet, its artistic and executive leadership, its Board of Directors and the Indianapolis community. It exists to support the mission of IB and provide the necessary assistance for all performances. Through its activities and fundraising, the Guild is by nature philanthropic, creative, entrepreneurial and industrious.
